If a poet is anybody, he is somebody to whom things made matter very little ~ somebody who is obsessed with Making. Like all obsessions, the Making obsession has advantages; for instance, my only interest in making money would be to make it. Fortunately, however, I should prefer to make almost anything else, including locomotives and roses. It is with locomotives (not to mention acrobats Spring electricity coney Island the 4th of July the eyes of mice and Niagara Falls) that my ‘poem’s are competing.

They are also competing with each other, with elephans, and with El Greco.

Well hello!  My name is Madelyn and I am a writer and photographer  living in my ’sea to sky’ city of Vancouver, British Columbia. My curiosity leads me to everyday magic and I enjoy taking my camera out to capture all that is quirky, beautiful and wondersome in the world.  I love morning coffee, film, poetry, vinyl records (singing along so happily) old movie theaters, lightning storms, cobalt blue and peonies, reading books curled up on the front porch, chasing sunbeams, letterpress, scribbling in notebooks, long drives without a map and saying yes!

I am perpetually astonished by the beauty of the ordinary universe.  ( a glass of ruby wine, a little hand holding, night swimming) Nothing brings me greater  happiness than a warm and languid Sunday morning, listening to records curled up with my love, lingering in a cafe with a cinnamon macchiato,  picking up film from the lab and poking about thrift shops.

The blustery sensuality of a crimson fall day cheers me more than you can imagine,  as does a cozy evening backyard fire, watching Fred Astaire films or spending  an afternoon wandering through art galleries.  I adore the laughter of my children, swimming in the ocean with my dog, and the company of my cherished friends. And hats. I am very fond of hats.

As an artist I am lured by ways to illuminate beauty that is felt rather than seen exploring my emotional sensitivity through photography, writing and short films.

I am available for photography assignments, retreats, workshops and freelance writing, as well as teaching artist residency seminars in creative writing and photography for children and adults.

This year I am teaching a creative photography course to elementary grade students  ‘Open to Exposure’ is a springboard for storytelling, engaging children to communicate their captivating inner worlds through visual literacy. Exploring photography, children will learn to express the wonder of their emotional lives stepping out as recorders and observers as they get in touch with creativity and imagination, each in their own brilliant way of ’seeing.’ The program culminates in an exhibit of the children’s porfolio’s entitled “Open to Exposure ~ Seven’ which invites the audience into the child’s world through a series of seven revealing photo’s.

Thank you for taking the time to stop by and visit ~ I’d love to hear from you.
