monday musings
Oh this weekend flew past me! But it was perfect if fleeting nonetheless There was a trip to seattle, wine and brilliant birthing of ideas, repotting my succulents for my studio, a very spicy vegetarian pasta sauce for sunday night dinner with friends, blustery walks on the beach collecting gifts from the sea….midnight music and blackberry tea when I simply could not sleep (reading ‘the war of art’ with furrowed brow and small epiphanies) and loads of crumpled papers on the floor from a terrible bout of writers block for work. A quiet pact was made with myself this weekend to not buy anything new at all this year with the exception of art supplies, books and a microphone (for my e~courses) and it feels so wonderful. The occasional visit to the thrift shop is allowed for above mentioned books however. (and perhaps the occasional vintage cardigan) I have the lovely Darlene and Kristen to thank for this new pact as I hop on board:)
I am deeply unearthing small (seven word) poems which hold me in thrall as I carefully pen delicate poems for friends as Christmas gifts. Along with these poems I am elclosing a miniature 3 x 3 print from my polaroid series. There will be gold and silver enclosed as well…because well, it is Christmas after all.
My first round of the ”yes’ e~course is almost done and I am feeling quite sad as it was such a brilliant and engaged group of participants. In the next few weeks I am testing my new photography e~course for children based on the program I am teaching in the Fine Arts school so I am looking forward to that very much.
It is Monday ~ I am making a curried broccoli soup and Irish Soda bread ~ and there is a whole week of possibility ahead of me ~ what are you up to?

Sounds like you had a great weekend, and your supper tonight sounds great. Normal every day stuff here today, lots of laundry, cooking, and snuggles.

Hello,
I’ve been lurking here for a while, introduced to you by Kirsten and The Four.
It’s simply time for me to come out and tell you how much I enjoy your words and images. They always leave me inspired and smiling. Thank you.
Warm and happy wishes to you,
Stephanie

Sounds like a magnificent weekend. I esp. like the part about the walks on the beach and the blackberry tea. Your gift idea sounds like it is moving right along. I need to take heed and get a move on myself. Have a brilliant week!!
Peace~

Ah. “The War of Art”. An incredible book and not for art sissies.
Reading it was a life-changer for me.
Love this image – the shadows, the fairy lights, the feel of cheerfulness that I always think of when I think of you. I think you are the yellow butterfly dancing with the leaves I saw in my front yard this weekend, flitting in the sun.

Don’t be said, there will be more.
Your soup & bread sound scrumptious, would you mind sharing the recipe? I just made an acorn squash soup last Friday and it was delicious!
I’m looking forward to my to do list and finding a little time to read and enjoy a nice bath soon with maybe a glass of wine.

This week I hope I can get some reading done. (I am reading living a simple life with children)…Sunday and today were wonderful days in New Jersey; I hope stays like this just for one more day so can go outside with my two year old angel, who loves raking the leaves with mama, and why not jumping on the pile that’s in front of lawn. I love the fall…hopefully I can make some pumpkin soup tomorrow, a big pot that can last for a couple of days and that I can share with my love ones.

How are you going to get through the year without buying anything new?

i don’t actually use a recipe so here is a general sense of it
saute one whole red onion finely chopped in a soup pot
in a little olive oil
when carmelized add two cloves of garlic chopped
then add your favorite curry spice mixture (this week i used a tablespoon
of patak’s curry paste (spicy one)
then add broth (i premake a vegetable broth but you can also buy
containers of vegetable or chicken broth that are organic)
i add very lightly steamed head of organic broccoli (still crunchy) so
it will simmer in the broth and the nutrients won’t be lost
later…after simmering…i blend in a blender (course) and
serve with rustic break
yummy!
anu ~ i have everything i truly need so i don’t need anything new

curried broccoli soup with Irish soda bread sounds like such a treat for the tongue and tum — wish i could taste a hot spoonful:) i will have to imagine.
your purchasing pact for the new year sounds so refreshing. i will follow.
your Christmas gifts — straight from your beautiful heart! — the best kind by far.
what am i up to?
sitting in a large bean bag the color of taupe, strong late-morning sunlight streaming in, as my daughter sings out loud in the bubbling bath tub:)
someone else was doing 6 word poems as i made blog visits this morning — now who was it? Methinks the beautiful Relyn. i will try my hand at 6 and 7 — lovely!

Gosh, I adore your writing, Maddie. You know how to bring a reader into a room with you. I’m looking at the photos that you have taped up onto your wall in this photograph. Is this your new studio? Hope you are having a wonderful week, my friend. I’ve been missing our talks on the phone.
